Online Communities & Virtual Guest Speakers

There are many reasons you might have for wanting to explore supplementing your classroom environment with these online tools.
  • You're interested in students continuing a discussion started in class
  • You want students to collaborate on each others' work
  • You want students to create and lead online discussions
  • You want your students to have access to electronic copies of your assignments
  • You want students to be able to submit their assignments electronically and keeping them organized in Drive
There are a few options that the district directly supports making the choice ad-free and technically supported.

Edmodo

  1. Upload files such as documents, photos and video.  (On the iPad, it will allow upload of photos and videos only)
  2. Add a quizzes.  
  3. Give out assignments.
  4. Track student progress.
  5. Create classrooms that students can join by entering a code you gave them.  Collaborate with parents in the same way.   
  6. Link your Google Docs to Edmodo

Google Classroom

  1. Here you can post an assignment or quiz for your students to do including a document, video, web link, etc.
  2. You can post an announcement for your class to read...or a reminder
  3. Students can turn in assignments electronically and you can comment on them electronically
  4. It is not accessible to parents...only to students you invite.
  5. Students can comment on announcements you make (or not, you decide)

Google Hangout
  1. A way to communicate with others using the Google platform
  2. You can do a video Hangout - like with Skype or FaceTime
  3. Or you can do a text Hangout - like chat, instant messenger, live texting
